CrankBrothers Standard Release
Customizable Float. Premium Brass.
The CrankBrothers Standard Release Cleats are designed with a unique "left/right" orientation that allows you to tune your exit angle to match your riding style. By swapping the cleats between your left and right shoes, you can choose between a standard 15° release for quick exits or a 10° release for maximum security during aggressive maneuvers and technical descents.
Why the Standard Release is a Mountain Bike Staple:
-
Premium Strength Brass: Forged from a high-durability brass alloy that is designed to be slightly softer than the pedal wings. This ensures the cleat wears down over time rather than your expensive pedals, maintaining a "factory-new" feel with every fresh set.
-
Customizable Release Angle: Features a "dot" indicator system. Placing the dot on the right shoe gives you a 15° release; placing it on the left shoe provides a deeper 10° release for riders who move their bikes around in the air.
-
6° of Rotational Float: Provides enough "wiggle room" to allow your knees and ankles to find their natural alignment, significantly reducing joint strain during long days in the saddle.
-
2-Bolt Universal Fit: Compatible with all standard 2-slot mountain bike shoes, including XC, Trail, and Downhill models.
-
Low-Profile Design: Engineered to sit flush with your shoe's tread, making "hike-a-bike" sections easier and protecting the cleat from premature wear on rocky terrain.
-
Complete Hardware Kit: Includes high-tensile steel bolts and specialized plastic "shims" to ensure a perfect interface with any shoe sole depth.

The Alegro Perspective: Crankbrothers pedals have such a unique 4-sided entry, the Standard Release Cleats are the most popular choice for 90% of riders. If you are new to the system, these are the default. Pro tip: Brass is a "wear part." If you start to feel "vertical play" or your release feels vague, it’s time for a fresh set. Swapping these out once a season is the cheapest way to make your $200 pedals feel brand new again.
