Born of Italian and Filipino parents, the Filipino word "Alegro" derived from the Italian language and associated into my (Mike Spagnola's) love for cycling seemed to be a fitting name for the project.
The logo colours were drawn from the Filipino flag, while the name was drawn from an Italian word. I'm able to wear it proudly on my jersey.
The word "Alegro" is a unique blend of heritage, spirit, and speed that defines our entire approach to cycling. It represents the tempo of the ride, the cheerfulness of the community, and the persistent commitment to excellence.
Italian Heritage: The Tempo of Performance
In Italian, the root word "Allegro" is a musical term meaning cheerful, lively, or quick in tempo.
This directly ties into the speed and precision aspect of the Alegro Cycles brand. It represents the fast, precise movement of the high-performance bike and the lively pace of the group ride. It emphasizes that we don't just ride; we ride with vigor and technique.
Filipino Heritage: The Spirit of Joy and Community
While "Alegro" is not a native Filipino word, its essence aligns with core Filipino cultural values of resilience, optimism, and communal joy, often expressed as Maligaya (happiness).
This represents the "Fun: It must be Joyful" aspect of us. The Filipino spirit is defined by finding joy and community even during the hardest pursuits. It means that the pursuit of better is not a grim, solitary effort, but a shared journey undertaken with a supportive "peloton" and a smile at the summit.
