Locks & Security
Protecting your investment is about more than just a piece of steel. It’s about the peace of mind to leave your bike and know it will be there when you return. Our Locks and Security department features a curated selection of industry-leading hardware designed to thwart everyone from the "smash-and-grab" opportunist to the professional thief.
From the ultimate strength of Sold Secure Diamond rated U-locks to the compact convenience of folding locks, we provide the tools you need to build a multi-layered security strategy for your home, the office, or the cafe.
Security Categories
1. U-Locks (D-Locks)
The gold standard for urban security. These rigid, hardened steel shackles offer maximum resistance against bolt cutters and leverage attacks.
- Best for: High-risk areas and long-term parking in city centres.
- Pro Tip: Choose a smaller shackle size to minimize the space a thief has to insert a hydraulic jack.
2. Folding Locks
The perfect blend of security and portability. These locks offer the strength of a U-lock but fold into a compact, rattle-free frame mount.
- Key Models: Abus Bordo 6000K and the lightweight uGrip 5700.
- Best for: Commuters who want high security without the bulk of a heavy chain or rigid U-lock.
3. Chain & Wearable Locks
Offering the most flexibility, chain locks allow you to secure your bike to wide objects like street lamps or large trees. Wearable versions make transporting a heavy chain effortless.
- Best for: Awkward locking spots and riders who don't want to mount hardware to their frame.
4. Ground Anchors & Home Security
Statistically, many bike thefts happen at home. Our ground and wall anchors provide a permanent, immovable locking point for your garage or shed.
- Best for: E-bikes and high-value collections stored in shared or private residential spaces.
5. Component Security (Skewers & Bolts)
Don't let a thief walk away with your wheels or saddle. Replace your quick-release levers with locking skewers or Hexlox bolts that require a specialized key to remove.
The "Alegro" Strategy for Total Security
- The 10% Rule: Aim to spend roughly 10% of your bike's value on security.
- Double Down: Use two different types of locks (e.g., a U-lock for the frame and a cable or chain for the wheels). Most thieves only carry tools for one type of lock.
- Fill the Gap: When using a U-lock, fill as much of the internal space as possible with the bike and the rack to prevent "prying" attacks.
The Sold Secure Standard: We prioritize locks rated by Sold Secure. Look for Gold or Diamond ratings for maximum protection, or Silver for a balance of weight and security in lower-risk areas.
