The Lightweight Speed Link.

The KMC X11SL stands out because of its Hollow Plate and Hollow Pin construction. By strategically milling out the inner and outer plates and using hollowed-out rivets, KMC has achieved a weight that rivals or beats almost any other 11Speed chain on the market. Despite its skeletal appearance, the Double X-Bridge outer plate design ensures that shifting remains crisp and reliable across all 11Speed drivetrains, including Shimano, Sram, and Campagnolo.

Why the X11SL is the Weight-Weenie's Choice:

  • Super Light Construction: Features laser-cut hollow outer and inner plates along with hollow pins, bringing the weight down to approximately 231g significantly lighter than standard high-end chains.

  • Double X-Bridge Technology: The outer plates feature unique chamfered angles that allow for faster and smoother gear transitions, even under high pedaling loads.

  • Ti-N (Titanium Nitride) Coating: Available in a striking gold finish, the Ti-N coating isn't just for looks; it provides a harder surface that reduces friction and extends the wear life of the chain.

  • Non-Directional Design: Unlike many 11Speed chains, the X11SL can be installed in either direction, making setup simpler and reducing the risk of a "backwards" installation.

  • Universal 11Speed Compatibility: Works flawlessly with Shimano, Sram, and Campagnolo 11Speed drivetrains, making it an incredibly versatile upgrade or replacement.

  • MissingLink Included: Every chain ships with a high-quality CL555 MissingLink, allowing for tool-free assembly and easy removal for deep cleaning.

The Alegro Perspective: In the shop, we use the X11SL when a customer says "make it as light as possible." It’s one of the few places where you can save ~20-30g without any real downside in performance. The gold version is also a classic way to add some "bling" to a blacked-out bike. While it’s slightly more expensive than a standard chain, the combination of low weight and KMC’s legendary durability makes it a worthwhile investment for a high-end build.
